2024 and this still sounds fresh as hell!! Could've been released yesterday. But it was released 20 years ago by a band 25 years into their career at that time. These guys are just something else. The whole Send album is fucking awesome, on par with their original classics!!
The tide is high, sandbag your street! Converging, swelling channels meet The torrent roars, banks are breached Stay calm, be cool, a part at least The brakes are on, controlled retreat Quick-go-slowly, heart valve weak Fairness flounders, sincere cheats Disgraced champions, taste defeat Beware the timely statement leak... The trigger is the price of meat Barricade your first floor doors Evacuate your sick and poor Be larger picture, strong and deep Be good, be bad, be more, elite... A prince of bread, a pint of peace In Middle Earth, in Middle East Go east, go north, go south, go west Leave mouths open, with your best Adapt to change, stay unimpressed Adopt: 'Chekov', to family crest
Que wen tema por la cresta ❤
Che meraviglia!
here from gazelle twin this song is so pretty in both versions
Absolutely brilliant tune
Ahead of its time
i seem to remember one of the members left so they renamed the band wir ! cool
Sounds like the Rolling Stones.
strum, strum, strum and ... strummmmmmmmm
Where is the keyboard player ?
Spiderman nyc vibes for some reason
Also check the Big Black /Albini version...
They only spent a couple of minutes, so I wlil just spend one word: PERFECT.
Never heard a bad version of this song
I used to think the lyrics during the chorus were "He frightens the earth with his nonsense birth"
For the past 40 plus years I've been singing a completely different set of made up lyrics. Now that I've just read what Wire were actually singing, I can no longer remember for the life of me the words I substituted.
Graham solo album in the making?
U.S. NAVY a while BACK...embraced WIRE...at least at the OFFICER Level. D.I.J. also. Splendid Music Making...Message? dunno exactly however GOTOBED San is my Hero Time Keeper! Jesus Ov Nazareth Lives and IS Returning soon...
When i'm down this song is a medicine
Saw a sticker on Warren Street tube station with this song written on it
This song grew on me after a few years. I mean I thought it was good already but one time with headphones was all it took for me to put this in their top 30. I especially love the guitars at the end.
Just Genius.
it takes genius to squeeze such a delicious pot pourri of melodic hooks into 3 minutes.
The perfect song
If I saw Robert Grey, Colin Newman, and Graham Lewis on a subway... I'd probably stroke out... God love these guys.
yes
Fantastic - love how they can still pull of that sense of menace and weirdness-you can see the connection to past glories like a thread reaching way way back - true art
Couldn’t fit it on my skinny arm 🤣nor me leg ! Look like a twat with it on me tummy 🤣
yes🐸👍
Wreckless Eric sez: “I love this one!”
had this in white vinyl and picture cover. best wire song.
1:53
This is just a direct copy of Comet Gain ! : )
Ha haa except it was released over 13 years before Comet Gain formed 🤦🏻♂️
Poetic lyrics.
Thumping version full of beef …
1978?
BON SANG
1978 was a REAL YEAR for me, and this one totally takes me back there!! God bless wire, dave in London
they're simply a wonderful set of fellows. what a band.
Just perfectly written ❤️
Love this song so much. Can’t believe it was not a major hit.
Could be age, something a lot of comments here betray, but I am so grateful for this song and being around to hear it. Is that ok?
OMFG I only recent got this album but this track is now my favorite Wire song ever! Like others have stated here each of their albums are different. They are true artists creating art; not just pop bullshit. I got into Wire about 25 years ago based on Michael Stype of REM saying they were his favorite band. I'm on board with that one!
He lies on his side, is he trying to hide? Legendary track. Legendary band.
Up there with the most jaw dropping songs I have ever heard. ❤ So many huge bands owe Wire everything they earnt.x
This is what Radiohead aspired and failed to achieve.
Can we all just agree that this one the best songs ever written?
i would not ask this question anywhere else than here; In the tourist trap and musical purgatory that is Nice, Frenck damned Riviera , Runs and Gauzes m Hey seedy sse and may tally caca are the only bands people know
First time I’m hearing this delightful song… and I’m 59! Long time Post Punk fan and the like kind of music 🎉❤
. So much genius in this song, why this didn't go top 20 will always be one those mysteries
